Grêmio’s quest for a strong replacement in their attacking lineup post-Luis Suárez’s departure has hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Ángel Di María. Several medias had earlier hinted at this development, and vice-president Antonio Brum confirmed the news in an interview with journalist Duda Garbi. Brum clarified that while there had been considerations when Suárez’s exit seemed imminent, Di María wasn’t currently on their radar.

The Argentine had been available when they were assessing options, having moved to Benfica subsequently. However, Di María’s sights seem set on a different path—he plans to return to his roots at Rosario Central after concluding his stint in Portuguese football. His allegiance to the club where he began his career in 2005 seems unwavering.

Despite some contact made, the directors at Grêmio were informed that Di María has no intentions of playing in Brazil. His heart appears to be tied to Rosario Central, and the discussions only involved representatives, not the player directly. Brum expressed skepticism about Di María joining any South American club other than Rosario Central.

With Grêmio eyeing a return to the CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage, the board remains active in the transfer market, aiming to secure the services of up to three more players. The search for suitable reinforcements continues as they gear up for the upcoming season.
