Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has taken a significant step in his recovery from a lower back injury by resuming bowling at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). A recent viral video showed the 31-year-old Mumbai Indians pacer practicing in the nets, raising hopes of his return to competitive cricket. Bumrah has been out of action since January 2025,
with his last appearance being in the fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he bowled only in the first innings. His injury ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025, with Harshit Rana replacing him in India’s squad. Bumrah’s absence has been felt strongly by Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The five-time champions have struggled in their bowling department, losing their first two matches against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

The team is now set to face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31 at Wankhede Stadium, but Bumrah is confirmed to miss the match. However, reports suggest that he could make a comeback by mid-April, giving Mumbai Indians a much-needed boost in their campaign. The Ahmedabad-born pacer has been a crucial part of Mumbai Indians since making his IPL debut on April 4, 2013, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Over the years, he has played 133 IPL matches and claimed 165 wickets, establishing himself as one of the league’s finest bowlers. His ability to deliver under pressure and execute pinpoint yorkers has made him an asset for both Mumbai Indians and the Indian national team. Bumrah is also one of only four bowlers in IPL history to have taken two five-wicket hauls, highlighting his match-winning abilities. As he continues his recovery, fans eagerly await his return, hoping that his presence will strengthen Mumbai Indians and bolster India’s fast-bowling attack in upcoming international assignments.
