Jasprit Bumrah Rejoins Mumbai Indians Ahead of Clash Against RCB

India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has officially rejoined the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad ahead of their much-anticipated IPL 2025 fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7. However, while his presence has lifted the spirits of the MI camp and fans alike, it is unlikely that he will be part of the playing XI, having just returned from a prolonged injury layoff. The team management is expected to take a cautious approach with his reintegration.

Bumrah had sustained a back injury during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney earlier this year. Following the injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team recommended a five-week rest period beginning in January. As a result, he missed India’s white-ball series against England and was not part of the Champions Trophy campaign. After undergoing back surgery, Bumrah underwent a structured rehabilitation program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Over the past few weeks, the 31-year-old speedster gradually increased his bowling workload, passing through several stages of fitness testing. Only after receiving a final clearance from the BCCI medical panel was he allowed to join the Mumbai Indians camp. His return brings hope to MI, who are looking to bounce back after a shaky start to their IPL 2025 campaign.

Mumbai Indians announced Bumrah’s comeback with a dramatic, Game of Thrones-themed video on Instagram, titled “Ready to roar.” In the emotional clip, his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, narrates a powerful tale to their son Angad, likening Bumrah’s journey to that of a lion who fought through the jungle of cricketing challenges. The story symbolized his resilience, determination, and readiness to reclaim his throne. With Bumrah back in the fold, MI fans can look forward to seeing their star pacer back in action soon—perhaps as early as the next fixture.
